Math is increasingly more difficult for elementary school children then 'back in my day.' To help my 2nd grader grasp concepts in fractions I enjoy opportunities to have them help in the kitchen when I am baking. Learning Objective: Nathan will successfully follow the recipe directions, which includes identifying the necessary measuring cups and spoons needed for each ingredient in the correct order.
Materials:
-Recipe ingredients
-measuring cups and spoons

-cookie sheets
-cooling rack
Procedure:
1. Wash hands - bonus lesson on cleanliness
2. Read through recipe and set out all ingredients to ensure we have everything
3. Begin adding ingredients in order and mixing as the recipe calls for
4. Adult: put formed dough in to oven, set timer and remove cookies when finished baking
5. Allow cookies to cool - bonus lesson on patience
6. Enjoy!
